There's a new version of the Apple DVD player (v3.0.1) for MacOS X available through Software Update. It doesn't appear to be available on Apple's download web site yet.

For Macintosh users (of which group I am a new member), the Macscript.com Library is a $49 library of AppleScript functions for use in writing your own scripts.
Terrific article from A.M. Kuchling describing The MEMS Exchange Architecture, a large-scale Python application for automating manufacturing processes. I'm not 100% clear on what the MEMS Exchange actually does, but it seems to be somehow related to nanotechnology. Regardless, it's a great article about building large systems in Python.
Here's an article about Telia, a large Danish ISP, moving their server operations from a multi-UNIX server farm to a single IBM mainframe running Linux. The article includes a link (at the bottom) to a horrible-looking, but very interesting, PDF from IBM describing the system.
A nice introduction to xinetd, which is designed to replace the standard inetd daemon on UNIX.
