Exploring Eclipse

Beginning Eclipse for Advanced Developers takes a look at the open-source Eclipse development environment from the perspective of a long-time Emacs user. A good first look at the tool, but aimed at those who already have significant experience with software development using other tools.

Darik's Boot and Nuke

Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) is a single bootable floppy containing the Linux kernel, the BusyBox user environment, and a set of GUI tools for securely erasing computer disks. If you ever need to completely erase a computer (for example, before selling or donating it), you can simply boot off this floppy and scrub the hard drive using various wipe strategies (including the DoD standard method).

Cocoa Networking Frameworks

Stepwise.com takes a brief look at the various frameworks available on MacOS X for network communcations. It does a good job of comparing the different frameworks in terms of their feature sets, but doesn't really go into specific detail of any given framework.

Nmap Security Tool Survey

The author of nmap has released his annual Security Tool Survey, listing the most popular security tools as determined by a survey on the nmap mailing list.  Lots of "standard" tools like "OpenSSH, l0phtcrack, nessus, etc." but also quite a few  hadn't seen before.  [via Slashdot]
